I believe this group was an anachronism. Their music was, and still is, unique. I find it difficult to put it into a particular genre. It's rock, blue grass, country and traditional to my ears. The lyrics are pure and striking, thought provoking and message bearing - from social and political injustice to love and comic relief. My only regret was never seeing them in a live performance. If you like music, you owe it to yourself to take the opportunity to appreciate their artistry. The music industry itself owes some of today's standard sounds and rhythm to Mason Proffit.

John Talbot today can be seen at http://www/john-michael-talbot.org/ . This may be a temporary page.

Art Nash can be heard these days with "Tucker's Fault", in a newly released album, "Shady Lane" (May 1999).

Check with Horizon Records in Greenville, S.C. (nice folks). Their album is reminiscent of MP, but different and good. Art is still unmistakeable (lower left in photo). A drummer that can double on harmonica is hard to forget. He also is still playing a bass drum circa MP!

The first album, "Wanted", is my favorite of them all. "Two Hangmen" became the most well known of what I call the "ballads". The lyrics were political and timely - probably because Viet Nam was on everyone's mind and heart and the words of this song spoke of atrocity and Uncle Sam as the bad guy. "A Rectangle Picture" also brought home the agony of the war and the depth of the scars. They're all good.
