QWIK FILE ELECTRONIC TAX FILING
Prepare your tax return and IRS form 8453
1) First, obviously, you must prepare your
income tax return. Round all entries to whole dollars. Do not
make any cents entries. Tax returns with dollars and cents
entries cannot be filed electronically. If you have an
overpayment of tax you can elect:
Be sure to double check
your math and tax calculations. Math and tax errors account for
most of the processing failures we experience.
Remember: Qwik File cannot change the
information you send to us. If there is an error you will be
contacted and given information on what must be corrected. For
quicker turnaround in case of an error, please include your
telephone number and e-mail address. A revised tax return and
form 8453 (explained below) must be sent to us. There is an
additional $ 7.50 reprocessing fee. This will result in a delay
in receiving your refund, depending on how quickly you correct
the problem.
Accuracy !! Accuracy !! Accuracy!!
2) Next, you must obtain and complete IRS form 8453, U.S. Individual Declaration for Electronic Filing . This form can be obtained from:
Print form 8453 and its instructions. Be sure to read the instructions carefully. Prepare and sign the form (if a joint return, both taxpayer and spouse must sign). If you have questions on where to place the required information on the form, send us an E-mail. Note - we cannot prepare form 8453 for you, however we can explain where to find the information on your tax return.
Part II, item 6a of form 8453 is the optional election to have your refund direct deposited to your account in a financial institution. You do not have to elect direct deposit to have your tax return electronically filed. See the FAQ page for the anticipated time difference between a direct deposit and paper check refund.
This is a critical item of information.. If you provide us with incorrect direct deposit information your refund may be sent to the wrong financial institution. They'll send it back to the IRS. The IRS will then reprocess the refund as a paper check to you. This can take as long as 6-8 weeks.
To correctly process your return for direct deposit you must provide your financial institution's Routing Transit Number and your account number.
If you are using a check, the routing transit number can be found in the lower left hand corner. It is a 9 digit number, the first two digits of which must be in the series 01 through 12 or 21 through 32. The account number generally follows the routing transit number. Enter the account number without any hyphens or dashes. Be careful not to include the check number which may also appear in the group of numbers on the bottom of a check.
If you are depositing to a savings account call your financial institution to get the proper information. DO NOT use a savings account deposit slip to obtain the routing transit number. Whether you are depositing to a savings or checking account we strongly urge you to contact your financial institution to obtain the proper information.
REMEMBER - QWIK FILE CANNOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR A REFUND DELAY CAUSED BY INCORRECT DIRECT DEPOSIT INFORMATION YOU SUBMITTED.
We strongly suggest you include a voided check so we can verify the direct deposit information.
3) If you are also sending us your State of Michigan return you must complete and send form MI-8453. Download this form and instructions from the Michigan Department of Treasury Forms Page . You can designate your State refund to be direct deposited to the same financial institution as your federal refund.
4) Attach the original Copy B of all W-2 forms to form 8453. Also attach any forms 1099-R or W-2G that show federal income tax withheld. For Michigan, send the State copy of your W-2 forms.
5) If your tax return was prepared by a paid preparer they must sign in Part III "Paid Preparer's Use Only". If you cannot obtain the paid preparer's signature you may attach pages 1 & 2 of form 1040 with the paid preparer's signature and identifying information in the appropriate section at the bottom of page 2.
6) Attach any other documents (if needed) that constitute the "non electric" portion of the return. Refer to the form 8453 instructions. This may include:
